What Do I Do? What Do I Say? Interactive Reading Books

Social Skills Velcro® Picture Books

by Joan Green

Grades PreK and Up
By matching pictures with words, children dramatically improve their reading skills. With these interactive books, students begin by removing the colored, Velcro®-backed pictures from the picture library pages. Then, they use the pictures to correctly complete the 12 activity pages in each book. Designed by a special educator, these interactive reading books have activities for children of varying ability levels, pre-reading and reading. Each book is 8" x 5", laminated, and bound by two metal rings. These comprehensive Interactive Reading Books allow everyone to participate in the joy of learning to read while learning appropriate social responses and behaviors.
In the book What Do I Say?, the child practices responding to 18 questions or actions in social situations. For example, "Someone hears me burp! What do I say?  I say, 'Pardon me!' "
In the book What Do I Do?, the child responds to different school situations and decides what  he/she should do.  For example, "I need to go to school. What do I do? I get my backpack. I get on the bus."
Follow pre-reading skills suggestions for using the Interactive Reading Books or the three-step reading program inside each book. When the student finishes the book, have him/her return the picture cards to the library pages in the front of each book by matching picture to picture.
