  2. I love all of the...
I love all of the super duper products that I have purchased over the years. My students really enjoy Pirate talk and Lids & Lizards. For Pirate talk, I use this game/activity for both my artic and language kiddos. It is a fun activity and practical for my students who are working on carrying over their corrected speech sounds into structured/written sentences. My younger students enjoy lids & lizards. We work on using longer utterances, using grammatically correct sentences/questions, identifying objects and sorting/classifying. Thank you

  3. Pirate Talk Review
We have been loving our new Pirate Talk game at our school. The students at this school are aged 6-21 with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. The timer can be silent or make noise which is a nice option. The game is colorful but simple and can be modified for a variety of levels! It is a great game!

  4. Easy Adapted to Meet A Variety of Goals
When I purchased this game, I had several clients in mind that I wanted to use it with. Yes, it comes all prepared and ready to go, but the more I've used it, the more I have found that it can EASILY be adapted to address a wide range of goals (beyond what's written on the cards). I've even used it without the cards and have had articulation clients earn coins as they practice their sounds and move around the board. I am a BIG fan of this game.

My 7 and 3 year olds can play with friends, all practicing their own skills at their own levels, without anyone seeming to care that some are getting more/fewer/easier/harder questions. Play is much simpler than most of my 7 year old's games, with harder brain work, but he still enjoys it.

  6. Pirate Talk Game Receptive/Expressive Language Game
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I am an SLP that need a fun interactive language game for my students to help with receptive/expressive language skills. Where did I go to look for this language game? Offff course “SuperDuper”. I searched receptive/ expressive language games and “Pirate Talk” came up. I read up on it and I decided to purchase it. I’m so glad I did. I have students that range from K-5 grade and I have been using it for all of them. How it is played is the child will observe a colorful drawing on the game card and then think about the picture and answer from 3 questions or tasks listed on the back of the card. It focuses on the following categories including “People”, “Home”, “Community”, “School” and “Activities”. I read the corresponding sentence and then my child repeats the sentence aloud and answers a question about the sentence or points to an item from the picture. They are ultimately building on valuable language and expressive skills such as the ability to categorize, describe a situation, use inference and/or relate to the social situation described in the picture/sentence. Making learning fun, they move around the brightly colored, engaging game board, spin the electronic spinner and collect gold coins. The student’s enjoy it. They are excited about who gets the most gold coins.

  7. Great game
This game is highly engaging for a wide range of students (I have K-5), easy to play, and I LOVE that the time to play is as long as you want! There is no "end" to the game board, so you can have a five minute game or a 30 minute game.

Tried this out with 2 5th grade language students using the Inferences and Describing questions. The girls found the questions interesting and challanging -we only had a half hr & ran out of time! Can't wait to try the Following Directions and Sentence Repetition questions with some of my other groups! I serve 4 schools PK-12th, nice to have everything in one place to "grab and go"! Electronic spinner is fun but super loud for some of my more sensitive students!

The Pirate Talk Board game is a fantastic game! My students absolutely loved it. The main purpose of this game is to work on expressive and receptive language. It works on answering questions, following directions, describing, categorizing, and more. As the children move around the game board, an adult tells them a statement with a picture. The adult then asks different questions to the child about what they were told from the card. On the game board, when the child passes an island, they get to collect a certain number of coins. The person with the most coins at the end wins. My students loved collecting the gold coins because it was ‘treasure.’ They also really liked that their game pieces were pirates. I really loved that the game came with an electric spinner. I recommend using it with the sound off though, it is really loud. I loved that this game helps students with language skills. I received this game for review.

This game was a huge hit at my house as I was able to customize the way we played to allow both my 5 and 3 year old daughters play together but work on the language skills that individually challenge them. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone who wanted to help their child work on expressive or receptive language skills!

  51. My daughter loved the electronic spinner!
My daughter loves board games and it’s perfect when I can incorporate learning into a fun game. Pirate Talk focuses on language and communication skills. There are seven different areas of focus that parents or teachers can choose to target, such as following directions, describing, and inferencing. The award winning Pirate Talk comes with 150 color coded cards that are divided into five categories, home, school, community, etc. For example, in the home category, there was a question where the picture shows a boy taking a bath. The card would ask students to point to the towel, or point to the soap. It has questions such as “Who is in the tub? What is he doing?” that require your child to explain the picture. It will ask your child / student to name three things that you might find in a bathtub, or three things you might find in a bathroom. It works on inferencing with questions such as, “Why do you think there is a puddle of water on the floor next to the bathtub?” The card asks “What do you think Ryan should do when he finishes the bath?” Pirate Talk comes with an electronic spinner rather than a traditional spinner, which my daughter was really excited about. She sometimes has trouble spinning those little plastic spinning wheels that most board games come with. The electronic spinner was perfect for her because she could just push a button and watch the lights spin around. I appreciated the fact that the spinner has a switch to turn the sound on/ off, for those of us who prefer to use it with just the lights. With the way the game is formatted, I think it works best with the adult being the facilitator and at least two children as players. The grown up is the one reading all the questions. We found a variation that we liked. The directions include a few different options for game variations, and we played a version where players pooled all the gold coins they earned in the middle of the game board, rather than collecting the doubloons themselves individually. Then at the end of the game, the winner wins the whole pot! Another variation that I want to try is called Digging for Gold, where you bury the doubloons in a container of sand and let your child dig them up. Pirate Talk would be ideal for a teacher or therapist doing a small group activity with a few children.

  52. Great Game
*I received a copy of this game to review on my blog, Home Grown Families. My girls loved this game! They're obsessed with pirates so it's perfect for them! One of my little girls have an expressive language disorder and this game is geared specifically to that. It's also great for children that don't have any language problems.

  53. Adorable Game!
This is a board game that is perfect for getting kids thinking and following directions. The best part I think is the electronic spinner - no dice to loose just tap it and wait to see what number the light stops on. As kids, aka pirates, move around the board they look at a picture and answer questions. It is a fun way to get kids thinking and working out their brains, and they think they are just having fun! My boys love winning the gold doubloons (coins) and its become a family game we play often! They do need help though as they can't read the cards yet. I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My daughter had a blast with Pirate Talk. She especially got excited collecting gold coins as she sailed around the board, answering prompts. The prompts work on seven different communication skills; sentence repetition, inferencing, answering questions, following directions, describing, categorizing, all while boosting their social skills. The color coded prompt cards are broken down into five categories; School, People, Home, Community, and Activities.

  55. Fun for all ages!
My son is almost 4-years-old, younger than the suggested age for this game, but we tried it out because he loves pirates and we love game nights! Sometimes we might not be able to play to the exact rules (making adjustments for his age and capabilities), but I have already noticed an improvement. He struggled with some of the questions at first and already he's much better and remembering, analyzing, and answering correctly. It has been so much fun! He loves moving around the board (what a fun electronic "spinner" that lights up!) and collecting gold coins. We play this game a lot--it's a chosen favorite--and I definitely recommend it!

  56. Fun for my 6 year old!
The electronic spinner is SOOO FUN! Honestly, I have never seen one so this had my attention too! This game builds receptive and expressive skills in a FUN and rewarding way. The categories are areas that interest my son such as school, community, home, people and activities. The cards are very bright and colorful. The game is really easy to play, and the instructions are very clear cut. Basically you ask the child questions about the photo they are seeing and correct answers allow you to move forward and collect pirate "booty."

Pirate Talk has been a hit with my students since day one! I like it not only for the colorful pictures and the language skills that the game targets, but the game is flexible enough that it can be used for other communication goals as well! That is a HUGE plus for 'funding strapped' schools - one game can serve multiple purposes!! Pirates are trendy so this game is right in style for today!

  61. Great!
We began our game play after Danika returned home from a full day at school. She goes to Kindergarten everyday, all day. I was interested to see if she would enjoy learning this way after an already long day of learning or if it would lack the ability to capture her attention. I was pleasantly surprised to see her jump right in and have a blast with the game. She loved it and so did Aiden. Despite their different age levels and capabilities they were able to play the game together without frustration. Danika helped Aiden when he didn’t know the answer and it proved to be a great way for both of them to learn. I was impressed at how much it captured my kids attention and held it. They loved playing the game and I was easily able to tailor it to their ability levels.

Since buying, I have used this game with every single child on my caseload. Whilst the Receptive and Expressive Language tasks are already provided, i use the pictures on the back of the stimuli cards to elicit a Language sample and complete Stuttering and Articulation therapy by constructing stories about the cards. For Stuttering kids, i give them one gold coin following every smooth utterance and speech kids receive a piece of gold each time they produce the target sound correctly. Kids love earning more coins than their therapist. I have even used this game to help complete Assessments by completing sub-tests between each move. I love this game and my caseload loves Speech Pathology this week. The pirate game has been a winner with my kids! Who doesn't love pirates??????

My students love the pirate theme, earning gold coins, and looking at the picture cards. We find games move too slow for 30 minutes sessions with only a 1-3 spinner, so we frequently use regular dice or a 1-6 spinner instead. Each picture is descriptive enough to target areas even NOT listed on the back. They are open-ended enough to allow for multiple uses and multiple students per card. The majority of my students struggle with following directions, answering questions, and repeating sentences so I'm all set. However, one of my students has already complained that there is no captain. It's never a good thing when you have to repeatedly tell a student to pick a color. I'm thinking about making my own "captain" figure and sitting it in random places around the board. The "crew" will have to rescue him from the dangerous sharks. This should take care of the complaints.

I work in a school for children with autism and they absolutely LOVE this game! When I see them in the hallways they request, "Pirate Talk, Please!" When working with individual students, I use the cards, coins and flashing buzzer. I have used the game board with groups but find it's much easier to just pick the cards. The kids are distracted by the coins that they forget about the board. Great way to get expressive and receptive language going, as well as following directions and comprehension. My students enjoy taking turns asking each other the questions on the card which helps with fluency and rate, as well as turn taking. The picture cards are beautiful and allow for great conversation. Would definitely recommend!!

This is a great game! My students are really enjoying it. It is easy to implement IEP goals into the game, as it targets so many areas of language. I also combined it with the book How I became a Pirate, and other pirate themed crafts. I'm thinking about expanding it to include a historical aspect for my older students. An overall great therapy game!

This is a really great game. My kids love it, and I love it because there's no true start or end you can just keep going (although my kids have a difficult time understanding this!) until the end of your session. The language cards are great, and the game portion itself can be used with all groups.

  86. So many uses!
This is such a versatile tool that may be used with any speech/language group (I am using it with kindergarten through upper elementary)! Sometimes my students just love to use the electronic spinner - no gameboard - to determine the number of coins they can earn. There are so many ways the game can be played as a reinforcer for any speech/language activity. One drawback, however, is the slow speed for the electronic spinner - I use the time to elicit additional responses while waiting. Also, we use it with the sound off - I wish that the sound was not such a high frequency beep. The students do love it, though!

This game has been a dream to use with many different children I work with. The functions of the playing cards are so diverse that they can be adapted to address a number of different goals - I've even used them for problem-solving skills in a social group, where kids have to work together to come up with 3 ideas between them, before they can each get coins. It's even fun for me to play! I highly recommend this game for school-age children abound.

  90. Pirate Talk
This game has been a lot of fun! I use it often, with the materials that came with it or with materials for other goals. The bonus is using it for articulation practice with /r/ words, because the game board itself offers many opportunities to practice the /r/ sound ('treasure' 'pirate' 'mermaid' 'aaarrrgh' 'port' and so on). The kids love to collect their treasure, sometimes individually and sometimes as a group into the center 'treasure chest' picture. The question cards have great pictures and are adaptable for many different question forms. Very motivating!

  92. Pirate Talk Board game
I like the game and my students love the coins. It's also fairly versatile to address a wide range of language levels. However, there could be a pirate chest to hold the coins. Also the spinner is slow and annoying. Last I wish they could earn 1 or 2 coins from every roll rather than having to land on the island. Then it would be more reinforcing. Turtle talk is still a better designed game.

This is the best game ever! It is great for all elementary ages and is so adaptable for groups with various skill levels. The pictures are good, the questions on each card include receptive and expressive skills, and a variety of these skills as well. The kids love the gamepieces that look like pirate ships and they just LOVE earning the gold coins! Especially fun idea was to hide the coins in a bucket of beans and have the kids dig them out--all my students enjoy this. This is now my "go to" game and the kids are asking "when can we play pirates again?"

What I like about Pirate Talk is its versatility. The game board can be used for articulation therapy with your own word sheets. The language cards included are good for students up to grade 3. I used it with my 4th grade language students and most of the questions were too easy. I would have liked question cards that had a bit more of a challenge.

I have been an SLP for a long time. Pirate Talk is something that I can use in many different ways with many groups of students. It has both receptive and expressive parts that range from simple to more complex. The game is simple enough that it doesn't interfere with therapy. The kids like the gold coins (although I'm sure I'm going to be missing those before long) but they can be a little distracting. I guess you could skip using the coins if your students are easily distracted. I'm hoping my students will just get used to them. I really, really like the multiple areas targeted in Pirate Talk which I think is it's biggest asset.

Pirate Talk is an excellent game for working with a group of students in a school setting. The gold coins are very appealing to the kids, and their eyes light up everytime I pour them onto the middle of the gameboard. (I think they might think it's real gold!) Pirate Talk has really spiced up my sessions! The kids love the electronic spinner and the detail of the artwork and on the board. This artwork leads us to discovering new vocabulary words like "port" and "isle." Not only do we get to cover all kinds of scenarios with the cards in the different decks (separate decks for school, home, community, etc. scenes), but all cards have receptive and expressive questions on them. The gold reward coins are now coveted by all and one child even asked me if he could borrow the game for the weekend!!! The only complaint I have is that the electronic spinner has stopped working correctly (lights up like a Chritmas tree instead of spinning), but it may simply need a new battery or I may need to just call the nice folks at Super Duper to get a replacement.
