The revised Structured Photographic Articulation Test –featuring Dudsberry® 3 (SPAT-D 3) provides clinicians with not only a quantitative tool but, in addition, a way to gather important qualitative information to assess the speech production skills of children ages 3 to 10. Use the results of the various quantitative and qualitative aspects of the SPAT-D 3 for qualifying the child for services as well as developing goals, monitoring progress, and determining dismissal.
Quantitative analysis of 65 singleton consonants and 17 consonant blends at the word level are elicited by 36 color photographs of Dudsberry, the Golden Retriever, interacting with objects which contain the target phonemes allowing for calculation of standard scores, confidence intervals, percentile ranks, and percentile bands. Determining consonant inventory, percent of consonants correct, word shape, and presence of phonological patterns, as well as evaluating vowel production, provide a qualitative analysis at the word level.
NEW FEATURES
- Assessment of Complex Contexts empirically linked to reading deficits
- Two levels of Multi-syllable Word Screeners help evaluate whether children receiving services for speech sound disorders (phonological or articulation) and appearing ready for discharge have the phonological skills necessary to meet grade-level expectations (set forth by the Common Core State Standards in Speaking and Listening as well as Reading and Writing).
- 25 target words
- 17-3 syllable words; 7-4 syllable words; 1-5 syllable word
- 65 target words
- Arranged by theme
- Use target words to create a unique word list for specific children based on their sound challenges.
BASIC: Ages 5-7 (picture stimuli)
ADVANCED: Age 7 and older (printed word lists)
- Examiner’s manual provides an in-depth guide for the influence on English production of the 6 most prevalent languages/dialects spoken in the United States to help determine a speech difference versus a true disorder.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Normative tables are based on a national sample of over 2400 children from the four geographical areas (including rural, suburban, and urban areas) specified by the current U.S. Census Bureau.
- Thirty- six 4” x 6” real life color photographs of Dudsberry serve as stimuli to spontaneously elicit the word-level production of 65 single consonants and 17 consonant blends.
- Validity, reliability, sensitivity and specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios, and bias data included support SPAT-D 3 as part of the assessment protocol for a child suspected of a speech sound disorder.
- Color-coded response form enables examiner to immediately analyze articulation errors according to syllabic function and manner of articulation. No whole word transcription necessary.
- Response form includes sections for consonant inventory, percentage of consonants correct (PCC) and PCC-Revised, word shapes, and vowels inventory.
- Common phonological processes can be assessed.
- Phoneme production in connected speech can be assessed to determine consistency in sound production across contexts (word-connected speech).
- Multisyllabic Word Screeners target syllable fidelity and stress in addition to sound production/stability.
- Includes a separate response form for Multisyllabic Word Screeners.

THE Best Artic TestI have used this test since it first came out many years ago. I love the way the score sheet is color coded. I use it for more than articulation testing. I use it to sample syntax and conversational speech. I need it in CD form now. It is a staple for any SLP's tool box!

Great toolI think this is a great articulation test for all ages. It is really easy to elicit not only single words but conversation from the children as they love to talk about the dog and what he is doing. The pictures are colourful and clear.
-
an articulation test kids enjoy talking about!I have used this assessment many times with young children. They enjoy talking about Dudsberry and describing the silly things he's doing. I often get a spontaneous language sample at the same time as the familiar pictures encourage children to talk about their own experiences.

Love it!I love this product. Easy to use and my clients always enjoy it!
-
SPAT-D-III have used this assessment numerous times and with some very shy children. The pictures are very clear and make it easy to engage any child. By then end, even the most shy child is talking about "Duds". It is very straightforward to administer and score.

-
I love being able to...I love being able to get all of my therapy supplies in one place! You have such a broad range of products that can be used for the entire continuum of my students---everything from articulation to autism.

A great Assessment ToolThis is a great tool to assess articulation of children. I use it for children in grades 1-5. The story portion of it stimulates conversation and allows the clinician to get a good picture of speech as well as language abilities of the child. The color coded scoring forms also make it very easy to track positions in the word any specific error is made and to quickly visualize these patterns as you are administering the test. It's a great test to have!
