Hopping Frogs® Board Game

This hands-on, hopping good board game combines the fun of children helping their frogs "jump" from the "frog pond" (board) to their "lily pads" with development of early language and articulation skills. For articulation, the 420 game cards focus on earlier developing sounds (P, B, T, D, K, G, and F) in a fun and enjoyable way. Each sound has specific question cards for initial, medial, and final positions in single words. Hopping Frogs is flexible enough to allow you to work on a single target sound and position for all players, or address individual target sounds and positions for each player. For language development, Hopping Frogs has:

  • Vocabulary building - Exposure to and practice of nouns, verbs, prepositions and adjectives.
  • Simple analogies - When you leave, you shut the door. When you go in, you ____ the door (open).
  • Naming - Name the animal that says "oink" (pig).

It's also good for classifying, synonyms/antonyms, listening, and social skills. Each game includes:

  • Colorful, sturdy, and foldable game board (18" x 18").
  • 420 Hopping Frogs vocabulary cards (60 cards per sound, with 25 initial, 15 medial and 20 final position of P, B, T, D, K, G, and F) (2½" x 1½").
  • Laminated lily pads (8" x 8").
  • Over 130 colorful plastic frogs.
  • Instructions with game ideas and storage box.

Hopping Frogs is for readers and non-readers. Looks like it's a good time to "get hopping!"

The kids enjoy the game. I would prefer pictures instead of riddles for the stimulus cards. I should have read the description better that was my own error.

I needed something fresh to use for my students this year. Hopping Frogs is a great addition to my speech activities! It can be used for all my students, K-5. I can adapt it a little, in order to give the students more chances to hop frogs onto their lilly pad. They get less frustrated that way. All in all, a great game and glad I purchased it!

My younger kids love this game! Problem is, so do my older kids! Would love to have additional cards that work on some of the later developing sounds! The clues are great and not only make my kids think about their answers but also give them practice on their target sounds!

  6. Fun way to learn

My 4yo had just started hopping around like a frog when I got this game so he was extra excited about the theme, haha. This game is great because kids are proud to be able to answer the questions - but learn so much more through that without realizing it. My son is good with letter sounds, but we never before worked on their placement within words (not just the first letter, but in the middle or end of a word). It's great for language, word meaning, and articulation.

My boys loved playing Hopping Frogs Board Game. You compete to answer questions with all of the questions based on matching an initial, middle or ending sound. This game specifically targets P, B, T, D, K, G and F – the early developing sounds. I played this game with my 3, 5, and 7 year old boys and all of them could play along with their own level of sounds and cards. Since the one leading the game can select the card for each player, you can target a specific sound to target for each person to meet their skill level and keep it fun for everyone. When they get an answer right, they get to really get into the game by making one of the plastic frogs hop from the game board onto their individual lily pad. My boys got an absolute kick out of this! They loved making the frogs jump which made them excited to have another turn. We stuck to beginning sounds and even my 3 year old was able to answer many of the questions with a bit of prompting and help. I thought this game was a really great way to start helping my younger to recognize where the letter sounds come into play to help build word.

*I received a complimentary copy of this game to review on my blog, A Mom's Take. Opinions are my own.

I have had the opportunity to play with several games from this company and this one is just as great as the others! One of the things that I love about these games is that they have created them to grow with my children which I truly appreciate!

I love this game and recommend it as a must-have therapy item. I've played it with the board, lilly pads, and cards, as well as with just the frogs on the table. It's versatile, fun, and gets the job done!

Wow! All those hopping frogs! And so much fun to make them hop from lily pad to lily pad! The myriad cards for a variety of sounds in articulation therapy is impressive! The kids love this game and are so motivated they don't realize that they are learning the sounds as they play the game!

The frogs are highly motivating, and can be used with a variety of activities, not just the articulation cards. I do wish the articulation cards had pictures for kids to name, since the game does target the younger population.

I absolutely love this game because I can use it with groups where articulation and language are both a concern. I really wish there was an extension pack of sounds. Would love to see /s-blends, s, z, l, l-blends/ as an option.

As a traveling STA - having this game on hand was a lifesaver. Not only does it fit perfectly in smaller spaces b/c of the great square box and fold-able board, the little frogs haven't seemed to melt yet in this Texas summer heat!

What makes this game absolutely priceless to me is the fact that I never get bored playing this game. You don't even have to use the artic 'phrase' cards, just use the frogs in the bag with the boards/lily pads for any goal you may have and the kids will literally fall over themselves to play this game. :D

This game keeps the attention of most of my students, no matter how young they are. I've used just the frogs as motivators during therapy. I tell the students they need to collect 5 frogs before they are allowed to "hop" them from their lily pads.

Zero to three year olds enjoy being able to move their hands while expressing speech. The frogs assist them in having something to do after they achieve their targeted speech pattern.

This is one of my favorite games. I have a young client who asks for this game all the time. The game gives a child the opportunity to move something other than a token around a game board while working on sounds. It is one of the best purchases I have made.

I purchased this board game to use with preschoolers. I have found that the cards are too difficult for preschoolers; however, I have improvised and used my Artic Photo Cards to ease the difficulty. I feel that the cards are more appropriate for older students. The students love to hop their frogs! Great reinforcement!

This is a cute game with lots of possibilities. Since receiving this game, I have used it in various ways with k-5 students and they've all loved it! The stimulus cards are great for targeting vocabulary skills, even if the sounds aren't appropriate for your students. I've also used the game with other stimulus cards, and used a seperate electronic spinner to let students determine how many frogs they can try to "leap" to their lilly pad. The kids LOVE the frogs and we've had lots of fun!

I have used "Hopping Frogs Board Game" for a few years now and love it! It is great to have a product that targets the "younger sounds" as it is hard to find activities for these sounds. But more than that, the questions are fantastic! In addition to vocabulary they address analogies, rhyming, as well as other language skills so necessary to the developing child. These questions are also useful in classroom activites based upon the target sound. It enables you to work on critical language skills at the same time as addressing phonics and articulation!

This game is loved by all (young and old)! It gets much use in my speech room. It specifically targets language and articulation skills, but also targets fine motor skills! The questions are not too difficult but they make the students think! I pair this game with books about spring, frogs, and animals. I ordered this game when it first came out and my colleagues and I have used it many times. It is very durable and easy to play! I highly recommend this product!
