Stone Soup is a cooperative memory-matching board game with a twist. Instead of players trying to see who can find and make the most matches, players work together to “cook” a Stone Soup. The object of the game is to match all the Soup Cards before the Fire Out Cards extinguish the cooking fire.
A cooperative game eliminates stress, builds self-esteem, and teaches kids that playing together can be fun. This early cooperative game has all players working together for one outcome–everyone wins or loses – together. In this game, players must speak up, yell out, or point to cards you want your teammates to turn over. One player may be turning the cards, but everyone can use his or her memory to help a teammate find the matches. Now, that’s cooperating!
I’ve been using this game to teach teamwork with kindergarteners, and having appropriate responses to winning/losing games. They get a kick out of getting to pick which vegetables gets to go in the soup, which makes for easy client buy-in!
