Word FLiPS®

Word FLiPS with REAL words (and pictures) is a must for children with limited speech, unintelligible speech, and/or childhood apraxia of speech! Teach functional vocabulary words, such as greetings and requests (for example, "hi," "go," and "bye") while practicing up to three repetitions of sound sequences.

Word FLiPS includes three sections of identical picture words with four tabs in each section that divide the words according to articulatory placement: Bilabial, Alveolar, Velar, and Palatal. Begin teaching severely unintelligible children by having them repeat identical earlier developing sounds, such as "boo-boo-boo." Older or more verbal children can practice a variety of sequences, such as "tie-tea-shoe" as a warm-up to practicing sentences.

The words in Word FLiPS can also be combined to form other words (for example, "tie-knee" can be combined to form the word "tiny"). Word FLiPS includes a list of words and phrases that can be produced using the "flips," and suggestions for activities to make practice fun and motivating! Word FLiPS is 12" x 6½".

I love this therapy tool. It is such a nice tool to use with students that are demonstrating difficulty with their oral motor movements. I like how it breaks the sounds down into various placements; bilabial, alveolar, etc. My students were highly reliant upon my model and they were not able to produce without the model. This tool helped with transitioning students to generating words without a model.

This was the first purchase I ever made at Super Duper Publications when I first started my career as a speech therapist. I was not too happy when I lost it. I kept thinking the person whose house I left it at would give it back but I never did get it back so I ordered another one. I use it every week and actually almost every day. The pictures are big, bright and the kids love to flip the pages.

I am using this product for a client with apraxia. The organization of the sounds by placement is so helpful. The opportunities for multiple practice repetitions is built right in. Illustrations are clear and colorful.
Another use I have found is with a fluency client. The organization by sounds makes it perfect for practicing easy onsets. Very practical and useful. I have used it repeatedly in therapy since purchasing.

I like the words/pictures and progression of sounds. I use this for elementary students in an alternate curriculum who speak in 1-2 words that are primarily unintelligible. I like that three words can be side by side for practice (bye, bye, bye) to help put words together. I wish at times that I was able to remove them from the deck too, but overall I am very satisfied.

Some children who are usually too shy to imitate, are imitating the sounds in the Word FLIPS with gusto! Children who begin most words with a vowel skipping the beginning consonant are learning through this tool.

I really enjoy using this product with my young students diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech. It is versatile and the colored pictures make it entertaining for the kids. At times, the product is difficult to use with the built-in easel, the easel collapses. I just lay the book on the floor or table and continue flipping the pages. The students enjoy flipping the pages to make new sound combinations too! Great product!

I ordered my Word FLIPS for my kids that have suspected (mild) apraxia. I also started using it with a student with a very late diagnosed HL, who has almost no intelligible speech. The pure pride that my little ones feel doing these exercises make it worth the purchase. This product is also so easy for use with more than one student, which is great for me because I'm in the school district. I have one student working on bilabials and one working on velars, and all I have to do is flip forward!! No shuffling through cards!

This item is a great tool for children with verbal apraxia. It is separated into categories for placement of articulation, so children can practice moving their articulators from bilabial, to alveolar, to palatal, and velar positions. It can also be used as a handy tool for phonemica awareness. I have used it to identify rhyming pairs.
