The Functional Communication Profile Revised (FCP-R) allows SLPs and special educators to evaluate and account for some of the unique communication skills in individuals with developmental and acquired delays across a broad age range. It addresses all communication possibilities including oral language expression. The FCP-R yields an overall inventory of an individual’s communication abilities, mode of communication (e.g., verbal, sign, nonverbal, augmentative), and degree of independence. Examiner assesses communication through direct observation, teacher/caregiver report, and one-on-one testing. The FCP-R is appropriate for individuals ranging between mild and profound deficits.
The FCP-R has 10 subtests:
- Sensory/Motor
- Attentiveness
- Receptive Language
- Expressive Language
- Pragmatic/Social Language
- Speech
- Voice
- Oral
- Fluency
- Non-Oral Communication
Statistics
This well-respected test is a criterion-referenced assessment, not a norm-referenced instrument. Criterion-referenced tests compare the subject’s mastery of specified behaviors in order to provide information for planning instruction only; they do not compare students to one another.
