Social Skills Chipper Chat®

Social Skills Chipper Chat is a fun, motivating, magnetic chip game designed to help students discuss and understand appropriate ways of dealing with numerous social situations. The game has 12 different sets of social "theme" boards. To encourage group or individual discussions, the boards present 144 everyday scenes (12 per theme), related social stories, and relevant follow up questions.

12 Theme Boards

  • Polly Parrot Politeness
  • Race for Responsibility
  • Peer Relation-SHIPS
  • Camp Compliance
  • Assertion Asteroids
  • Staying Focused
  • Operation Cooperation
  • Building Body Language
  • Problem Solving Solution
  • Self-Management Soccer
  • Ice Cream Social Rituals
  • Negotiation Nations

Each of the topics has five illustrated Chipper Chat® boards, so groups of 2-5 students can play. Every game board has 12 social scene cards that relate to the main theme of the board. Two levels of stories accompany each scene. Level A is a short, simple story that contains the basic facts describing the action in the scene. Rely on this level for young children. Level B is a longer story with additional facts. Use this story with more advanced students that have greater attention spans and the ability to grasp main ideas and inferences.

Four questions/discussion statements follow the stories.

  • Why Question - asks why a person acted a certain way in the story.
  • Related Question - asks a relevant question about the story.
  • Reasoning/Predicting Question - asks what might have happened, how the characters felt, or what the student thinks about the situation.
  • Personal Discussion - the player talks about what he/she has done or would do in similar circumstances.

There are over 576 question/discussion opportunities!

Each time a player answers a question, he/she rolls the die and earns chips to place on the game board. When the board is full, the player uses the "magic" wand to pick up the "flying"chips.

Social Skills Chipper Chat:

  • 12 boards (60 playing surfaces total - 8½" x 11").
  • 144 social scenes - 9¾" x 6".
  • Activity book.
  • Magnetic wand and chips.
  • Sturdy storage box.

This is a very good product and helpful for children. I use it with my 3.5 years old where I have to find some specific cards that suits here as this product is for 5 years and up. Kids like the colored social card where you tell them a story. They also enjoy putting the chips and collect them by magnet. Highly recommend it.

I feel this product works best for individuals with higher level cognitive skills, but you could make modifications for lower level cognitive skills.

I really liked this game!It is so versatile and so much fun! Not too many board games keep the kids entertained and focused more than 10 min, but social skills chipper chat does it! The colorful pictures ,magic wand and the magnetic chips keep the kids thrilled and entertained throughout the games. You can also use the wand and chips to experiment with other toys, objects, like Thomas trains! It is structured and at the same time lives room for creativity, ready to play!t is functional, educational and any child can relate to it! it is also great for both: children with special needs and typical children!

The social skills chipper chat is a great way to get children to practice social skills in a fun and exciting way. This is great for a group setting rather it is for SLP's or school social workers. It gives you more of an outlook of how students interact socially together and areas of improvement.

I use Social Skills Chipper Chat with my Elementary and High School students. I love this product because it provides two different stories which vary in difficulty. The questions promote communication and give the student the ability to discuss their answers in detail. The pictures depict real-life situations that most of my students deal with at school.

  38. Social Skills Chipper Chat is Super Duper in Therapy!
    Quality
    100%
I am a student in SLP and recently used the Social Skills Chipper Chat in therapy with my client. He is in the 5th grade and his mother brought him to the clinic because she was concerned that he did not have any friends at school and was unsure about how to work with others in a social setting. I decided to use Chipper Chat since it was very hands on, related to social skills, my client saw it as fun and a game, it had many different theme boards within the book and not to mention the carrying case was very easy to get back and forth from therapy with. Isaw improvement with conversation almost immediatley. He was not as shy and was excited to come to therapy and carry on conversations with me. The Peer Relation board was used the most. I acted as if I was a student in his class and we disscussed ways to build relationships with those around you and he would take questions from the board and use them at school. His mother came to me with tears expressing that his teacher had commented on how much more outgoing he was, how polite and how much more he interacted with his peers. I feel as if my client wanted to learn new ways to become more social and he would ask me at the end of each session if we were going to use Chipper Chat again. The wand and chips are also very fun for both the client and clinician. We would even play other games with the wand and chips such as speaking appropriate words to each other for conversation as well as a "stress" reliever of who could pick up the most chips in 10 seconds. I would recommend this material for any clinician that really wants to interact with their client and wants to truly see them exceed not just in the therapy room but in whatever situation may be compromising their ability to socialize with others.
