The Question Challenge®

The Question Challenge Card Game is an expressive and receptive language card game that targets social skills and reasoning. Students practice skills that are necessary for effective communication and problem solving. The Question Challenge Card Game includes 30 cards for each of the following 10 skill areas:

  • Staying Calm through Self-Talk
  • Inferencing
  • Determining Perspective
  • Cognitive Flexibility
  • Predicting
  • Intonation and Body Language
  • Questioning in Conversation
  • Social Encouragement
  • Stating Opinions
  • Understanding Sarcasm

To play, the teacher or student reads one or more questions from the question card and answers the item. For example, the card reads "Your mom talks to you like a baby in front of your friends at the bus stop. How do you stay calm in this situation?" The student may say, "Mom, I love you and I’m going to miss you today while I’m at school, but please don’t talk to me like I’m a baby. I’m growing up."

If the student answers appropriately, he/she spins the electronic spinner and receives the number of tokens indicated on the spinner. The Challenge Cards add a "twist" to the game! Students must pay close attention, even if it isn't their turn. When the player in turn flips a Challenge Card, he/she gets the opportunity to select the teacher, another student to his/her left or right, or any student in the game to answer the question! The student with the most tokens at the end of the game is the winner.

The Question Challenge Card Game

  • 300 color-coded question cards (30 cards per topic) (3⅜" x 2¾")
  • 50 challenge cards (3⅜" x 2¾")
  • Electronic spinner 1-3 (3" diameter)
  • 144 Talk Tokens

Combo includes Question Challenge Card Game and Question Challenge Card Game Fun Sheets.

I am excited to use this product! I am able to target a variety of skills using the same game. My older students get tired of paper/pencil activities, so this will be a nice change for them. I like that we can play the same game yet target different skills for different students.

  6. Covers So Many Things

I love this product!!! There are so many questions for each area, which is usually hard to find (most products run out of questions/cards before you really feel you've been able to teach the area, so you end up looking for more material). And the pictures allow for more conversation that just what is listed on the card. The only thing I can think of that would improve it is if the pictures were a little bigger so the small details could be seen easier. But overall, VERY pleased with this product!!!

I discovered this product while doing coverage for another SLP at her school. The students loved the interactive nature of the game, and I loved how a single item could target a number of therapy goals for all students in my groups. This has easily become one of the most-used products in my therapy room.

I love this game and the flexibility. Sometimes I just use the cards in my own open ended game or as trials and others I use it as the game it is intended to be. I love the variety of cards. I've searched for activities that include those domains and to have several in one package is fantastic!

Even Dad joins in when the boys sit down to play the game with their ABA tutors. I love the turn-taking and sharing social skills building in addition to the language part of the social skills. The kids stay interested because of the competition for the chips. It's a win-win in my book!

The cards are great in this game. There is a good variety of topics on the cards. I don't quite understand how to set it up as a game though. The tokens and counter are pointless if you ask me. I use the cards my own way during the session.

This may be one of the greatest SLP products out there!! It can be used with a wide variety of skill levels, covers a multitude of social/pragmatic skills as well as more basic "wh" question answering. It's fabulous and the kids love the "challege card" aspect of it. It's engaging and quick moving, and takes no prep time!

I love this game. The categories all focus on higher level, critical thinking skills. It is so much more than problem solving scenarios though. I love the diversity of the categories and each card poses a natural, realistic dilemma that a person can encounter. I have used this for elementary and middle school students. I find it easy to adapt and use a given scenario for social (lunch) groups as discussion topics.

I like how the categories are organized to hit many different areas. The cards have promoted conversation between my students about the various situations. It would be nice to have a board game with the cards, but they are easily adaptable to use with a different board game. Definitely recommend this product to add to your bag of goodies!

Great product. I am really enjoying using these cards with my pragmatically delayed second grade students. I have only used the "Determining Perspective" cards and I'm really enjoying it. I have been able to elicit a lot of social language skills with them (i.e. identifying feelings, understanding problems and solutions, inferencing, predicting..). My only wish is that there be large pictures on these cards. It was difficult at times to get my students to focus with such small pictures.

I bought this game to use with the children I service privately - autism spectrum and language comprehension delays. Each client I have played the game with has been highly motivated to answer questions in order to push the 'reward' and get tokens. I have gained valuable insight into the language comprehension pieces my students are successful at as well as those that are still in need of intervention. The questions and pictures are very up-todate, high quality, and cover a wide range of every day topics.

  29. Wonderful Game

I bought this game specifically for the kids on my caseload with social challenges, and I've used just the "Cognitive Flexibility" cards with them so far. They love the way the game works ("Challenge Cards" delineating who is to answer the question, electonic spinner, and tokens to earn) and have really shown the ability to think about 2-3 reasons for the variety of situations and scenarios on the cards. I've also used the game with many of my other K-5 speech and language students, and they have all thoroughly enjoyed playing the game. I've been able to elicit responses targeting various speech sounds, language skills, and fluency, while working on cognitive flexibility, perspective taking, and other higher level thinking skills. It's definitely a keeper!
